626 Night Market
We drove to LA during the day on Saturday of the long weekend, and made a stop on the way to Santa Monica to check out the 626 Night Market in the late afternoon. One of the nostalgic things about past trips to Taipei are the night markets, where you can get snacks like stinky tofu. I'm not personally a fan of it (they don't call it stinky for nothing), but you know the 626 Night Market is legit when they have a stall selling stinky tofu.
While at the 626 Night Market, we had strawberry lemonade in a donut-shaped drink floatie from Lucky Ball Korean BBQ:
I had boba in a mason jar from Boba Bear:
We shared a snack of fried chicken and churro from Naughty Churro:
Introduced the kids to okonomiyaki:
And since it was a tad hot, we had some sorbet-filled fruit from Gelati Celesti:
Shadi, Bru's Wiffle, and Santa Monica Pier
On Sunday, we met our friend, Shadi, for brunch at Bru's Wiffle, along with her then-boyfriend, now-fiance, Sam. When she told me the name, at first I thought she made a typo and it was "Waffle," but no, it was indeed "Wiffle".Before brunch, we had some time to kill, and so we walked around Westwood Village. We had donuts from Stan's Doughnuts, and I also took a picture of the historic Fox Theater across the street:
At Bru's Wiffle, we ordered Parker a side of hash browns while I had a red velvet waffle:
After brunch, we visited Santa Monica Pier, where we rode the Ferris wheel at Pacific Park, as well as had some ice cream at the Soda Jerks in the Carousel Building.
Downtown Disney, Dana Point Harbor, and Anh
On Monday, we tried to check out the Jewelry District in downtown LA, but we hadn't considered that many places would be closed because of the holiday, so we kind of struck out. We then headed to Orange County and walked around Downtown Disney for a bit before heading to see our friend, Anh, and her family. For dinner, we went to Baby Beach at Dana Point Harbor with our friends, where the kids were able to play on the beach (not something we can easily do in Phoenix!).
